Welcome! I’m Vincent Grech, an artist and fine finisher based in Chicago, but my work spans across the U.S. My journey in the arts began in Pittsburgh, where I was born and raised, with an early love for both the fine arts and music. It wasn’t until high school, though, that I truly found my calling in art, excelling in the creative environment and igniting a passion that would define my career.
After earning my Associate Degree in Graphic Communication from the Community College of Allegheny County, I had the privilege of working as an Iconographer’s Assistant at Robert Gerwing and Associates. This opportunity was a turning point. I worked on projects for Greek, Romanian, and Russian Orthodox churches along the East Coast, where I was immersed in new techniques like gilding, faux finishes, and the intricacies of geometry in painting. These experiences helped shape my understanding of composition and detail, which I carry with me in all of my work today.
In 1993, I moved to Chicago and began to establish myself as an artist and fine finisher, working on murals, furniture painting, and gilding projects, as well as learning advanced techniques such as Venetian Plaster and acids on metal leaf. It was here that I began integrating these materials into my own fine art practice, blending the traditional with the innovative.
In 1999, I opened the Thirteenth Floor Art Gallery in Wicker Park, where I not only showcased my own work but also provided a platform for emerging artists. The gallery was an exciting and fulfilling venture, but after three years, I chose to focus more on my personal work and was proudly represented by Gruen Galleries in Chicago’s Gallery District.
Today, I continue to push the boundaries of materials and techniques in my art. I’m always experimenting, always evolving—whether it’s exploring new textures, mediums, or processes. My goal is to deepen my connection with galleries and collectors who appreciate the rich, layered textures and vibrant finishes that define my style.
Thank you for visiting my site and for considering my work. I hope to connect with you soon and explore how my art can be a part of your space.
